For those of us in the data protection industry, 2024 was a year of profound shifts and game-changing events.
From witnessing the widespread disruption caused by a major ransomware attack against UnitedHealth Group in February 2024 to watching the vendor landscape change forever with Cohesity’s acquisition of Veritas, the data protection community has been served plenty of food for thought heading into 2025.
In terms of industry change, nowhere is this flux more visible than in the ebb and flow of the backup vendor landscape – see below.
At first glance, the trends seem to match what many of us are hearing about “winners” and “losers” in the market. It’s also an indication to us about how much (or how little) data protection vendors are investing in their products and the rates of adoption they are achieving.
So, how is Bocada addressing the rapidly changing vendor landscape, the ever-growing threat of ransomware, and evolving customer needs?

In 2024, we added the following new features and enhancements to Bocada Enterprise, our flagship installed solution:
- 🛡️ Cyber resilience: Immutable Backup and Encrypted Data Reporting + Backup Anomaly Detection (see feature spotlight)
- Storage device monitoring and reporting: a re-designed, more powerful storage framework provides improved backup media and storage device reporting
- 🧩 7 new connectors: Datto, Dell PowerProtect Cloud, Commvault Metallic, Cohesity Helios, Dell Powerscale OneFS (storage), and Dell EMC Unity (storage) (see all 40+ connectors)
- 🎨 Substantial UI/UX improvements throughout the application
- 📈 Substantial performance improvements to report loading speed and Remote Data Collectors
- 🛠️ Significant enhancements to Bocada’s Remote Data Collector (RDC) to enable customers to deploy it to thousands of clients and endpoints for data collection at scale

In 2024, we launched our new SaaS/hosted edition (see it here) and introduced many new capabilities for it throughout the year:
- 🚀 We deployed Bocada Cloud’s GA release on Feb 29, 2024 after a successful early access program that began in 2023.
- After nearly two years of continuous improvement, Bocada Cloud now offers:

Other Milestones
Engineering
The Bocada Engineering team continues to invest in our product platforms to deliver improved functionality and experience for our customers. Major investments in 2024 include:
- 🤖 Building advanced AI-driven capabilities into all three of our products (with more to come in 2025)
- 📈 Optimizing reporting performance
- ⚙️ Streamlining data connectors and data processing
- 🏗️ Investing in an improved framework for storage reporting
- 🎨 Improving the UI/UX across the application for improved usability
- 🛠️ Enhancing remote data collection (RDC) operations
Customer Success
- 🤝 In 2024, Bocada implemented new cross-functional Customer Success processes to strengthen the partnership between our Engineering and Support organizations, enabling us to better understand customer needs and more quickly resolve customer issues.
Sales/Marketing
The Sales and Marketing teams have worked throughout 2024 to make Bocada more accessible for any organization that requires data protection monitoring.
- 🛫 We’ve created new sales packages for MSPs. Our Quickstart MSP Program offers a low entry cost and monthly variable billing.
- 🌏 We’ve established new distribution partnerships with Carahsoft, NTT, SoftwareOne, Mainline and others to expand customer access to Bocada products.
Looking Ahead
- 🌥️ Hybrid and Multi-Cloud Strategies: Organizations will continue to diversify their cloud portfolios, using combinations of public, private, and edge clouds to optimize performance, cost, and compliance. Tools that simplify workload migration, unified observability, and vendor-agnostic orchestration will become standard.
- 🕵️ Regulatory Compliance is intensifying, and backup and recovery operations are increasingly a focus in cybersecurity, data protection, and privacy compliance frameworks (e.g., NIS2) due to the threat of ransomware and the importance of business continuity.
- 🚨 Legacy backup monitoring tools that have announced or reached EOSL (end of support life) will continue to leave organizations scrambling to find future-proof alternatives that keep pace with the ebb and flow of industry change (e.g., Cohesity’s acquisition of NetBackup).
- 🤖 Generative AI will continue to evolve in leaps and bounds, unlocking powerful new use cases for organizations that embrace it.
What’s Ahead for Bocada
- 🛡️ Cyber resilience: We’ll continue to expand our security and ransomware-focused features and capabilities.
- 🤖 AI-enabled features: We’ll continue to infuse AI into key use cases such as backup anomaly detection, backup failure analysis and prediction, and missing backup reporting.
- ✅ Compliance reporting: We’ll add turnkey compliance reporting for popular regulatory compliance frameworks.
- ⚙️ Automated remediation: We’ll continue to integrate automated remediation capabilities to our products, giving customers control over even more of their backup operations workflows.
- 🧩 More connectors & integrations: We’ll continue to future-proof our products with connectors and integrations for backup applications, storage devices, ITSM/PSA products, and other solutions.
